Emergency Preparedness Week is May 3 to 9. This year, the City of Burlington is partnering with the Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) to focus on one key piece of preparedness that is often overlooked: home insurance and how it works when you need it most.
The webinar covers how insurance works in practice, what is typically covered when it comes to water damage, the different types of flooding risks, and how homeowners and renters can better protect their property before severe weather hits. It also explores broader trends in catastrophic weather in Canada and what they mean for our communities.
Whether you rent or own, understanding your coverage is an important part of being prepared.

Watch & Win! Put Your Knowlege to the Test
After watching the webinar, complete a short set of trivia questions based on what you’ve learned for a chance to win a 72-hour emergency kit. The kit is designed to help individuals or households be self-sufficient for up to three days during an emergency.
How the contest works:
- Watch the webinar
- Answer a short set of trivia questions
- Submit your entry for a chance to win!
The contest is open to residents who live in Burlington. The contest opens May 4 and closes May 11 at 11:59 p.m. Winners will be selected at random from eligible entries and announced on June 2, 2026. For full contest rules and restrictions, visit: https://www.getinvolvedburlington.ca/crb.
The contest winner will be notified via the email address indicated on their contest entry form. If the selected entrant does not respond within three (3) calendar days of being notified, then that selected entrant will be disqualified, and the City will conduct another draw. The prize must be claimed in person at Burlington City Hall.
