Happy Bike Month, Burlington! Bike Month is a celebration of cycling to encourage everyone to get cycling, learn new riding skills or joining fun events to connect with new people! Ride your bike for your commute to work, a lunch break, running errands in your neighbourhood, or a ride with friends and family.
Biking in Burlington
In 2021, the City of Burlington became a Bicycle-Friendly Community, receiving a silver rating by the Share the Road Cycling Coalition.
Currently, the city offers the following cycling infrastructure:
- 48 km of bike lanes
- 47.3 km of bike route streets
- 6.4 km of bike lane/sharrow streets
- 11.7 km of paved shoulders
- 52.5 km of multi-use paths adjacent to the road
- 31.6 km of paved off-road, multi-use paths
The City of Burlington has also recently launched an Interactive Cycling Map to help you plan your cycling route

Throughout Bike Month, Smart Commute will host a series of bike-focused webinars:
Equity-Based Active Transportation Research and Experience
- Thursday, June 11, 2026 (noon – 1 p.m.)
- Working towards equity in active transportation requires ongoing engagement with equity-deserving communities to address barriers to participation. The session discusses how our positionality affects our experiences with active transportation, ways to engage equity-deserving groups at different budget levels as well as engagement with people with disabilities. The session will conclude with practical approaches for engaging equity-deserving communities in active transportation efforts.
More than Good Enough – Exploring Public Secure Bike Parking Solutions
- Thursday, June 18, 2026 (noon – 1 p.m.)
- Join Allison Miller from the City of London to hear how London is improving bike parking and how these lessons may apply in your community. Allison will highlight the City’s Bike Parking Implementation Plan, provide examples of secure bike parking, share success stories, and offer tips you can apply in your own community to make your bike-commute destinations better for you and fellow cyclists.
Ontario By Bike
- Thursday, June 25, 2026 (noon – 1 p.m.)
- Ontario By Bike will share inspiration and information on how to discover cycle touring and cycle tourism in Ontario. Learn about what makes both a destination and business bicycle friendly, what services are needed to become certified and other opportunities as cycle tourism in Ontario continues to grow. With tips for touring by bike, whether you’re looking for family-friendly trail rides, bikepacking adventures, or multi-day paved routes, this is a great place to start planning your summer and fall cycling trips.
