Going solar is a smart move – but the process can be overwhelming. Different technologies, confusing incentives, installers making different promises. Where do you even start?
Burlington residents now have a free resource for going solar. The Home Solar Accelerator from The Atmospheric Fund (TAF) is a non-profit concierge-style service that guides homeowners through the solar process – from assessing your roof to helping you choose an approved installer.
Why this approach to solar and storage?
Most GTHA homeowners interested in solar never follow through. They research for weeks, collect quotes that are impossible to compare, and can’t tell which installer to trust. The drop-off rate between “I’m interested” and “I’m doing it” is enormous – not because people change their minds, but because the process is exhausting.
The Home Solar Accelerator walks homeowners through the entire process – from “Is my roof suitable?” to “Which quote should I accept?”
What do homeowners get?
A Solar Journey Report. A personalized assessment of your roof, costs, potential savings, and financing options – before you talk to any installer. The numbers are laid out clearly for your specific home.
A dedicated Solar Advisor. One person who guides you from your first question to installation. Your advisor works for you, the homeowner, not an installer. They answer your questions, explain trade-offs, and help compare options.
Vetter installer quotes. Two to three proposals from TAF pre-screened installers who meet quality, licensing, and conduct standards. Quotes are structured for ‘apples-to-apples’ comparison – same format, same categories, no hidden costs.
No cost. This service is provided by The Atmospheric Fund as part of their mission to make the GTHA net-zero by 2050. There is no fee, no catch, and no obligation to proceed.
How does the program work?
- Fill out the intake form on the Home Solar Accelerator website
- You will receive your Solar Journey Report within a few days
- A Solar Advisor will review the report with you and answer any questions you might have
- If you want to proceed, the Solar Advisor will request two to three quotes from approved installers
- Compare quotes with your Solar Advisor’s guidance and decide which approved installer you would like to work with
The program is live now. Visit solaraccelerator.ca/ for more information.
Who runs the program?
The Atmospheric Fund (TAF) is a regional climate agency that was established by the City of Toronto in 1991 and endowed by the Province of Ontario in 2016 to enable TAF’s services to be offered throughout the GTHA. Home Solar Accelerator is their residential solar program, launched in March 2026. TAF launched the Home Solar Accelerator because residential solar has enormous potential in Ontario, but adoption is stalled by a complicated buying process – not by lack of interest.
Burlington Home Solar
Did you know the City of Burlington website has a Home Solar page with more information and resources about what solar panels can do for your home, and your electricity bill? Residential solar panels can help offset your electricity bills through Burlington Hydro’s net metering program.
Curious to see what solar panels could do for your home? Type your address into the Burlington Solar Map to see an estimate of your roof’s solar potential, and the financial and environmental benefits of installing solar panels on your home. This map uses publicly available data to provide estimated calculations. The map is intended for information purposes only. Please contact a qualified solar installer for accurate installation costs.
Take Action Burlington! Home solar supports the decarbonization transition by providing residents with the opportunity to generate their own electricity and contribute the rest to the grid through net metering. Collectively, we can make a difference.
