Spring Into Action: Make Every Day Earth Day

In April, the City of Burlington and BurlingtonGreen are connecting residents with opportunities to take action on climate change, clean up our environment, and learn about nature.

Earth Day Community Tree Planting Event

Residents are invited to join BurlingtonGreen and City staff in planting 500 native trees. Advance registration at burlingtongreen.org is required as space is limited.

Celebrate Earth Day with BurlingtonGreen

Join BurlingtonGreen for a variety of fun and family-friendly eco-activities such as pollinator seed ball making, shoreline cleanup, eco-trivia, and more.

BurlingtonGreen’s Annual Clean Up Green Up

BurlingtonGreen is aiming to see 12,000 people participate in their annual Clean Up Green Up this year which runs from March 9 to Oct. 31, 2024. Residents, schools, groups and businesses are invited to be a part of this city-wide event cleaning up litter from Burlington’s parks, school yards and neighbourhoods. Free clean up supplies are available if required. Register your clean up at burlingtongreen.org.

Spring Tree Giveaway

The City of Burlington is giving away 500 trees to residents. To receive a free, four-to-five-foot tree, you must register in advance between now and Apr. 23, 2024 at Get Involved Burlington. There are several types of trees available. Quantities and types are limited.

If you are successful in getting your free tree, you must have a vehicle to safely transport the tree on the following date and time.

  • Saturday, April 27
  • 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Pick up time is dependent on the species selected.
  • Roads, Parks and Forestry Operation Centre Parking Lot, 3330 Harvester Rd., Burlington

Learn about local birds while visiting their natural environment at a time when a variety of species are migrating through our area.

  • Meet at the BurlingtonGreen EcoHub by the Beach, 1094 Lakeshore Road, Burlington. A guided bird walk will take place nearby.

Hear how trees benefit our community, the importance of urban forestry, the City’s Urban Forest Master Plan, and opportunities for residents to support trees in Burlington.

Spring Electronic Waste Drive

BurlingtonGreen, Burlington Centre and the Burlington Repair Café are once again hosting their popular electronic waste drive. Computer and cell phone electronics along with a series of unique waste items not currently accepted in Halton Region’s recycling program such as candy wrappers, small sized air and water filters, reusable plastic containers and lids, used personal protective equipment (PPE), batteries, ink cartridges, plastic wallet sized cards, and more! Burlington Repair Café volunteers will also be on hand to help you repair household items.

BurlingtonGreen’s First Native Plant Sale

Do you want to have a garden with native plants but don’t know where to start? BurlingtonGreen is selling three garden kits (sun loving, shade loving, and monarch) and pollinator seed packets. All proceeds from the plant kit and seed sales directly support their Nature-Friendly Burlington programming to protect and care for local green space and habitat.

Order online at burlingtongreen.org/shop. Please note that all orders must be picked up in person on:

  • 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • BurlingtonGreen EcoHub by the Beach, 1094 Lakeshore Road, Burlington

If you cannot pick up your order on May 26, contact BurlingtonGreen at bg@burlingtongreen.org or 905-975-5563 to arrange pick up of your order on Monday, May 27 at the same location. Any unclaimed plant material after May 27 will be donated.
