Celebrate National Forest Week
Sept. 20 to 26 is National Forest Week! To celebrate, you are invited to learn more about Canada’s forest heritage and to raise awareness about this valuable and renewable resource.

Join this free webinar with Kyle McLoughlin, Master Arborist and Supervisor of Forest Planning and Health at the City of Burlington. Send in your tree-related questions when you register or email them to BurlingtonGreen before Sept. 23.

Tree Loving Care Workshop
- Thursday, Sept. 24 at 9 a.m. to approximately noon.

Open to local residents, students, groups, business employees, while space remains, this popular tree-ific event is fun, rewarding, and educational too!
Hosted by BurlingtonGreen and City of Burlington Forestry Staff, this year’s TLC (Tree Loving Care) workshop will bring community members together to carry out some hands-on stewardship activities at Mohawk Park in Burlington.
Participants will plant some native trees, remove invasive plants and shrubs from the existing forest at the park, tackle some weeding and add mulch, and create and scatter some native seed balls.
Community Tree Planting

BurlingtonGreen and City of Burlington Forestry staff are organizing a community tree planting. Together, participants will plant 500 native trees and shrubs PLUS some lucky participants will each win a beautiful tree to plant at their Burlington homes!
Annual Tree Photo Contest
Community members are invited to showcase their favorite Burlington tree by participating in BurlingtonGreen’s annual Tree Photo Contest. Email a photo of a tree located in Burlington, along with a short description and the location to bg@burlingtongreen.org. The winner, selected by community voting, will receive a $50 gift card to Connon Nurseries. Submissions open on Sept. 21 and close at midnight on Oct. 30.

Telling Tales at Royal Botanical Gardens
- Saturday, Oct. 3 and Sunday, Oct. 4 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Join a Nature Discovery Walk with BurlingtonGreen and discover fascinating facts about nature all around us. Get inspired to be an eco-champion for special friends like amazing Monarch Butterflies, and afterwards you can stay to make seedballs at the BurlingtonGreen tent to grow wildflowers that can attract butterflies and other pollinators to your own backyard or balcony.
Thanksgiving Eco Action at the Beach

Celebrate Thanksgiving by spending time outdoors and giving back to the environment. Join BurlingtonGreen for a meaningful morning of environmental action to remove litter and search for microplastics and nurdles— small plastic pieces that can harm wildlife and make their way into our waterways. Through this hands-on activity, participants will learn how these pollutants impact our environment and how we can all help create cleaner, healthier spaces for nature and our community.
Activities take place outdoors, rain or shine. Please share any accessibility needs with BurlingtonGreen in advance so they can support your participation.
Zero Waste Drop Off Day
- Saturday, Oct. 17 from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Burlington Centre – 777 Guelph Line.
Drop off your electronics for convenient, responsible recycling at the Burlington Centre’s parking lot on the corner of Guelph Line and Fairview. This event is held in partnership with Burlington Centre and Tech Genius Burlington Inc. A series of Terracycling Zero Waste bins will also be available to accept more unique waste items not accepted in the residential recycling program.
List of accepted electronics and appliances:
- Consumer Electronics (gaming consoles, iPods etc.)
- Computers (PC & Mac, monitors. parts, motherboards)
- Handheld devices (smartphones, cell phones, tablets etc.)
- Phone systems, racks & miscellaneous (server racks, lab equipment, disc arrays etc.)
- Printers (Inkjet & Laserjet, plotters, copiers, scanners, fax machines etc.)
- Peripherals (keyboards, mice, CD/DVD roms, cards, speakers, accessories, etc.)
- Servers (rackmount, stand-alone, all brands etc.)
- Software (operating system, editing, design etc.)
- Specialty Items (Cisco networking, switches, routers etc.)
- Personal appliances such as electric toothbrushes or razors
- TVs (not heavyweight)
- Microwaves
- Coffee makers or other small home appliances
After dropping off items outside, families can explore BurlingtonGreen’s interactive Towards Zero Waste space, inside the mall through entrance 1. Children can enjoy games and hands-on activities for all ages, while adults and youth can dive deeper into solutions.
