  1. What can we do about lawn service companies that are using commercial high decibel equipment that is damaging our ears and denying our children, families and nature to function in harmony?

    1. Thank you for your comment. According to our bylaw enforcement staff, we do not have any bylaws regarding lawn service. Our noise bylaw states that construction or maintenance noise is permitted from 7am to 7pm Monday to Saturday. Construction noise is not permitted on Sundays or statutory holidays. (Noise bylaw #19-2003).

      1. Hello,

Our neighbors are doing a whole house renovation and have been using using tile saws, and other high power tools outside all weekend and into the evenings. Very loud and intrusive.
What are the bylaw rules currently for these type of noises? Could you please send me a copy of the up to date bylaw?
        Thank you!

      2. Thank you for your comment. The Nuisance and Noise Bylaw can be viewed at http://www.burlington.ca/bylaws. Enter ‘noise’ under keyword for the Nuisance and Noise Bylaw 019-2003. Construction noise is noted in section 8 of schedule 2. This was updated in 2008 (049-2008) where construction noise is prohibited from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. and all day Sunday and Statutory Holidays. I suggest you contact bylaw staff at bylaw@burlington.ca to discuss your concern for further clarification and in case of exemptions.

  2. If the city would like contribute to reducing green house gases, perhaps the city can seriously look at synchronizing traffic lights? For example, on Upper Middle Road, between Brant and Appleby, there are 13 lights (including pedestrian) in under 6.3km. That averages to 1 light to just about every 500m! The lights are not smart lights. The tertiary roads with traffic will initiate change, regardless of a set of lights LESS THAN 400 m away. All that starting and stopping is not helping the environment. Poorly timed lights are causing excess car pollution and this is just 1 street. I could get from one side of Hamilton to the other in less than time than it takes me transverse 1/2 the total km in Burlington. You want to help the environment, install smart lights and get the citizens to point a to point b with as little stop and go action as possible.

  3. Grass cutting by the city is terrible at Nelson Park, with several areas having no cutting yet this year. I walk through to Iroquiois Park and it always looks nice.

  4. why are Burlington’s quiet hours 7am-7pm and Oakville’s are until 9am Sundays? Would this not help Burlingtonians who work be able to get uninterrupted sleep on a Sunday without loud music playing at 7am?

    1. Thank you for your question. Schedule 2 of the City of Burlington’s bylaw is also to 9am on Sundays for “The operation of any electronic device or group of connected electronic devices, incorporating one or more loudspeakers or other electro-mechanical transducers, and intended for the production, reproduction, or amplification of sound.” https://www.burlington.ca/en/by-laws-and-animal-services/resources/By-laws/By-law-Search/019-2003-By-law.pdf
