What does the Take Action Burlington Blog have in common with the Apple Watch, Jurassic World and Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk”? They all turn 10 in 2025!
We never imagined when we posted our first Take Action Burlington blog in 2015, that we would be here 10 years later continuing to engage residents of Burlington on a variety of topics including Biodiversity, Climate Change, Energy, Emergency Preparedness, Transportation, Waste, and more! Did you know you can use the categories and tags features on the website to search for the topics that are of interest to you? How It All Began
The concept of Take Action Burlington began when City staff and community members were planning the City’s Community Climate Change Summit that took place in May 2010.
It was important to the organizing committee that a free follow-up community event also take place. Due to a successful fundraising initiative, we hosted two free community events on World Environment Day in June 2010 and 2011; and also helped support BurlingtonGreen’s GO Green project, an outreach program connecting Burlington children aged 4-11 and inspiring them to take action to combat climate change locally.
The underlying theme at the Climate Change Summit was that we all have a role to play when it comes to creating a healthy, environmentally friendly community.
Historically, City staff provided annual environmentally related updates to City Council, followed by quarterly updates in a newsletter format which included initiatives that took place over the previous quarter and events taking place in the upcoming quarter. City staff developed the blog to provide you with more timely updates that not only showcase the City’s environmental accomplishments but also promote what individuals can do at home, work and play.
