Welcome to Take Action Burlington’s first blog post!
We hope you will visit the blog to learn about local environmental initiatives, actions that the city is taking, and tips for you on how to reduce your impact on the environment.
About the name of the blog – Take Action Burlington
In 2010, the City of Burlington hosted a community climate change summit called Take Action Burlington. It was a day packed with presentations and discussions about the sustainable actions already taking place in Burlington. At the core of the summit was the premise that we can all take small steps in our daily lives at work, home and play to make a difference for the environment.
Our Take Action Burlington logo helps to reinforce the interconnectedness between our actions and the resulting impact on the environment. The leaf and circular arrows inside or around some of the shapes demonstrate that if we each Take Action, we will collectively help to build a healthier and more environmentally friendly community.
Let me introduce myself. My name is Fleur and I am the sustainability projects coordinator at the City of Burlington. I have been working at the city for over 13 years. I have an honours Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from the University of Toronto and a Master of Natural Resources Management from the University of Manitoba.
I am one half of the sustainability staff at the City of Burlington. Lynn is the senior sustainability coordinator with a background in planning. Over the coming months, Lynn will contribute on occasion to this blog as well as a variety of guest bloggers.
We are very excited to be able to bring you news about building an environmentally friendly community. Stay tuned for posts on our blog (www.takeactionburlington.ca) and visit our website at www.burlington.ca/environment. We will also be promoting this blog and other environmental initiatives on the City of Burlington’s twitter and Facebook pages using the hashtag TakeActionBurlington.
