Participate in Burlington’s Street-Side Tree Planting Program in 2024!

Get a street side tree in 1, 2, 3 promotion

Are you a Burlington resident? Would you like to have a tree planted in front of your house on City property? If you answered yes, we have a program for you!

What do I need to do?

Contact the City!

You can call the City at 905-335-7777 or email city@burlington.ca and mention that you’d like to participate in the City’s Street-Side Tree Planting program.

What will happen next?

Forestry Investigator Visit:

An investigator will visit your property to ensure the site is eligible (based on property size, proximity to the road, and other relevant considerations).

If the site meets the conditions, they will help you select the right tree. While you can ask for a particular tree species, getting the exact one you want is not guaranteed.

Planting:

If the right-of-way (the street-side part that’s City property) is a good candidate for a tree, your address will be added to the list of planting locations for the upcoming planting season.

Why does the City offer this program?

A healthy and green city is a top priority for the City and a mature tree canopy is one of the many ways we can work to achieve this goal. A healthy tree canopy also increases our resilience to our warmer, wetter and wilder weather.

Why should I participate in this program?

Trees offer many values including:

  • Aesthetics – who doesn’t want their property to look nice?
  • Property value – has anyone ever said they weren’t in favour of this?
  • Air quality – trees help filter pollutants cleaning the air that you breathe.
  • Temperature regulation – did you know that neighbourhoods with more healthy trees are cooler on hot summer days? This is really important as our summers get hotter.
  • Stormwater management – trees help to absorb stormwater, which is important as we experience more intense rainstorms as our climate warms.
  • Homes for our furry and feathery friends – Help us to maintain Burlington’s Bird Friendly City and Tree City of the World designations.
