Don’t hibernate, celebrate! Winter Commute Month is all about embracing the season, building sustainable habits and tracking your impact along the way. With the right gear, sustainable travel shouldn’t stop when the temperature drops. Each trip – whether by bike, carpool, public transit, or on foot – can reduce emissions, ease traffic congestion, and contribute to cleaner communities.

How to Participate?
Throughout the month of February, log all your sustainable commutes and trips in the Smart Commute Tool for the chance to win a gift card. All types of sustainable commutes count – walking, cycling, carpool, transit, and even working from home! With the easy-to-use trip-logging feature on the Smart Commute website/app you’ll be able to log your efforts and monitor your personal stats throughout the month. Track your progress, view your carbon reduction, and watch your impact add up to real change!

Winter Walk Day: Feb. 4
Winter Walk Day is an annual celebration of winter walking that takes place on the first Wednesday of February, where kids across Ontario choose to walk to school. Physical activity, even in winter, is essential to improve mood, health and focus in class (and at work). Gather your friends and family and get to school the Canadian way – we aren’t afraid of a little snow!

Idling Gets You Nowhere
Remember, the best way to warm up your vehicle is to drive it. Though people like to sit in a warm car, so do thieves. Avoiding idling is the best way to eliminate the risk of ‘warm-up’ vehicle theft, while saving you money, reducing damage to your vehicle components, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Leave the car at home this February and participate in Winter Commute Month instead!

Take Action Burlington! By exploring active and sustainable forms of transportation we can save money and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Collectively we can make a difference.
