Conservation Halton (CH) has released their draft Watershed-Based Resource Management Strategy (“Watershed Strategy”) for public input until Sept. 13, 2024.
The Watershed Strategy is the delivery vehicle for CH’s programs and services. It will guide their ongoing work to protect natural systems and reduce natural hazards in the communities they serve and support the health and resilience of CH’s watersheds for years to come.
Developing the Watershed Strategy
The Watershed Strategy was developed using a phased approach. These phases are featured on CH’s Watershed Strategy webpage.
- Key watershed natural resource issues and risks were identified through the review of technical reports, monitoring data, and other information.
- A high-level goal and guiding principles and objectives were then developed to help build the design and delivery of actions that will address the key watershed natural resource issues.
- A climate change lens was added through an examination of the likely impacts of climate change on risks and vulnerabilities related to natural hazards and biodiversity within CH’s watersheds.
- Actions that build on CH’s existing programs and services were identified to address the key watershed natural resource issues and mitigate risks.
The Watershed Strategy summarizes these phases, using feedback from the public, subject matter experts, municipal staff, and First Nations and builds on the Watershed Characterization Report and Watershed Monitoring Programs Summary.
