Burlington’s Urban Forest Master Plan: We want to hear from you – part 2!

Thank you to everyone who participated in the first round of engagement on Burlington’s Urban Forest Master Plan (UFMP). In the first round, you were asked for input to inform the vision, principles, goals and recommendations for the draft UFMP. The draft UFMP is now available for your review on the project page. Please provide your feedback at a public information session and/or through an online survey.

Background

The UFMP will provide the strategic direction important to managing the urban forest in response to new pressures and challenges related to urban development, climate change, extreme weather and invasive pests.

This plan identifies opportunities on both public and private lands and focuses on five key areas:

  1. Management and Implementation
  2. Community Engagement and Stewardship
  3. Protection and Preservation
  4. Replenishment and Enhancement
  5. Tree Health and Risk Management

We want to hear from you

Connection to Burlington’s Climate Initiatives

Trees and natural areas, or green infrastructure, are an important part of being a climate resilient community. Trees capture and store carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. They also provide shade and cooling, reducing the urban heat island effect, and help reduce runoff and erosion when it rains.

Restoring our natural environment helps to increase biodiversity and provides suitable habitats for pollinators.
