Now that retail stores are open for pick-up, many residents are rolling up to get their packages or food orders in their vehicles. Please remember to turn your vehicle off while you patiently wait. I am sure you don’t want to get a $120 ticket for idling unnecessarily. And, no one wants to inhale your vehicle’s fumes!
Did you know that idling your vehicle unnecessarily emits greenhouse gas emissions which contribute to climate change and poor local air quality? We’ve all seen images showing how much cleaner the air has been with vehicles not running around the world due to COVID-19.
In April, Burlington City Council approved its Climate Action Plan. The Plan identified that transportation emissions make up over 40 per cent of greenhouse gas emissions in Burlington. While we recognize that not everyone can stop driving or purchase an electric vehicle right now, we can all do the simple task of turning our engines off while we wait.
Now that the nicer weather is finally upon us, perhaps you could think about walking or riding your bike for some of those errands in your neighbourhood.
Take Action Burlington! Turn your engine off. Collectively we can make a difference!
